About Dr. Asif Humayon
Dr Humayun is working as a consultant in Diabetes & Endocrinology and GIM at Milton Keynes University Hospital, NHS Foundation Trust. Dr Humayun is a dynamic, enthusiastic, dedicated, and forward-thinking person who believes in hard work and dedication to achieve excellence in care quality, research, education, and training. He has contributed significantly to improve patient care, service development & innovation, teaching, and research.
Dr Humayun absolutely loves his specialty and enjoys organisational and leadership responsibilities. He is regarded as a very organised and capable person who can be effective, motivate others and achieve set targets.
Dr Humayun is expert in a whole range of conditions in the field of Endocrinology, Metabolic Medicine and Diabetes. He has special interest in pharmacological management of Obesity, Thyroid dysfunction, and reproductive Endocrinology.
Dr Humayun runs dedicated insulin pump, adolescent and thyroid clinics in addition to general diabetes and endocrine clinics. He has been awarded level 5 local Clinical Excellence Awards for his valuable contribution for improving patient care, service development, innovation, teaching and research.
Leadership & Commitment to Medical Education across the Globe
Dr Humayun is regional advisor of Royal College of Physicians London for Oxford and Thames Valley region since 2020. He has played a leadership role in various education and QI activities including organisation of various educational activities in the region and online from RCP platforms.
Education & Training
As an educational and clinical supervisor of Endocrine trainee registrar and GP trainees since 2017 he has trained several doctors during their postgraduate training.
He is also a Royal College PACES examiner and teaches University of Buckingham Medical Students.
He regularly deliver education sessions to GPs and specialist nurses through conferences, webinars and have also organised several additional CME activities for GPs and practice nurses in the region.
Service Development and Innovation
Dr Humayun has been instrumental in the establishment of MK Integrated Community Diabetes service with the aim of improving patient care for over.
He is clinical lead for Milton Keynes integrated diabetes service. As a lead of the service, he works collaboratively with diabetes specialist nurses, dieticians, psychologists, GPs, practice nurses and other healthcare professionals. He has also established and run the Diabetes and Endocrine MDTs. This has improved patient safety and provided ongoing education and training of our specialist nurses.
As a lead for the Endocrinology and Diabetes department at Milton Keynes University Hospital, he has worked hard to bring significant expansion of the services and improve safety and efficiency through various quality of improvement projects and service development.
Dr Humayun has been involved in various clinical research activities and contributed to science through his various research activities. His research is highly relevant to the NHS by justifying and informing delivery of effective care.
He has served as a principal investigator of several clinical trials.
He has published over 30 papers in peer reviewed medical journals and several abstracts have been published as conference presentations.
Dr Humayun has delivered invited lectures at several regional, national and international conferences.
